Pretoria - Minister of Police Bheki Cele has ordered policing units to refuse be used as political tool when responding to protests, marches and events. Cele was attending the launch of the public order policing reserve units in Pretoria, along with National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sitole. "You don't ask political affiliations of the people you will be working with, you deal with them as South Africans," said Cele. "Don't be employed by the politicians to do their work. That not your territory. Your territory is to protect South African community regardless of their political affiliations and believes. "We can't allow political people to use and abuse the force." KZN women arrested for opening a indecent exposure case against dead man

Durban- A 25-year-old woman has been arrested for opening a false indecent exposure case against a dead man, KwaZulu-Natal police say. She was arrested by the Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on Wednesday after police confirmed that the businessman she had laid a case against had died in 2016, said Colonel Thembeka Mbhele on Thursday. The woman alleged that she had met with the deceased businessman on February 19 this year for the purpose of employment. "She stated that they met in Smith Street (Anton Lembede Street) and proceeded to Sangro Hoouse offices, where the indecent exposure took place." "A case of indecent exposure was opened at Durban Central SAPS for further investigation. Upon investigation it was confirmed that the suspect, aged 76, passed away in April 2016. It was also confirmed with home affairs," said Mbhele. Cape Town - Cape Town will not have Day Zero this year, but only if residents continue to save water, DA leader Mmusi Maimane announced on Wednesday. Maimane gave an update on the water crisis at a press briefing at the DA federal head office on Monday. "Every week, water consumption has steadily declined and if we continue at this rate and receive rainfall, we can ensure that Day Zero will not occur," Maimane said. "This means that the taps will remain open." Neilson also explained the situation concerning the three desalination plants still under construction. "We are still intending to put out tenders and contract for a couple of large desalination plants that strengthen assurance in the diversity of water supply," said Neilson. Robbery suspect killed in shootout with police

Durban- A shootuot between police and three suspects who allergedly robbed a women at gunpoint resulted in the death of one suspect in Clermont, Durban, on Friday, police said on Monday. The three suspects, one of whom is a police officer, allergedly forced a 28-year-old women into their car after they spotted her walking alone on a road in New Germany, eThekwini. "They robbed the women of her cellphone and she managed to open the door and got out of the vehicle'" said spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala. "The suspects then fled the crime scene in their getaway vehicle." A police officer  witnessed the incident and persued the suspects to the Clermont area. Charges dropped against UWC students after 16 months

Cape Town - After 16 months of delays in court proceedings' the Bellville Magistrate's Court has dropped charges against a group of 23 students from the University of the Western Cape, who had spent a week in jail, reported GroundUp. One of the students, Nwabisa Zenani, told GroundUp that she wasn't involved in the Fees Must Fall protest. She said she had been studying for upcoming exams on the day she was arrested in October 2016. Investigations by the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) led the students' Legal Aid attorney to make representations to the prosecution. Charges of public violence were withdrawn on Monday. FORMER PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA ANNOUNCES FREE EDUCATION.

On the 16 December 2017, former president Jacob Zuma announced that government would be phasing in fully subsidised free education and training for poor working class South Africans over a five-year period.  This statement left many South Africans hopeful and eager to see an important change in our education sytem. Former finance minister Malusi Gigaba's 2018 budget speech highlighted the education of South Africa's youth as one of the top three national prioties. In order to achieve a successful education system, the department of education should develop capacity within the teaching force, put in place internal controls to increase accountability, transparency of the learning process, and use of resources towards education at all government levels and in the classroom.
